Schools cooks take note – it's time to enter your best recipes into the 2011 British Turkey Awards.
Now in its 15th year, this annual event showcases the best products the British turkey industry has to offer in an effort to promote the use of the meat on menus across the UK. As part of this, school cooks are invited to submit to the judges (and serve to their children) their finest, original turkey-based concoctions in the ‘Best School Meal’ category.
Entrants can use any kind of British turkey catering cut that carries the Quality British Turkey and Red Tractor logo – be it steaks, mince, fillets or whole joints – with the criteria that the judges will consider including suitability, the ability to showcase turkey as the ‘hero’ of the dish, and the presence of a good balance of ingredients.
Those deemed worthy of a finalist’s place will be invited to a black tie awards ceremony at the Globe Theatre in London on September 22nd, during which the winner will be announced and presented with the coveted British Turkey Awards trophy and certificate.
Further details and entry forms can be found at ilovebritishturkey.co.uk or by calling 0800 783 9994. The closing date for entries is 15th July.
British Turkey has become a member of the Love British Food campaign and is working to ensure students remember turkey when the time comes to design their offering – as such, on the aforementioned website can be found a wealth of information, including the history of turkey, its health benefits and a host of recipes to provide inspiration.
