A new initiative designed to boost the nation's grasp of foreign tongues, 'Speak to the Future', has been unveiled.
The five-year campaign has been launched with the support of over 30 organisations, and is designed to address the UK’s flagging achievement in language learning. Specifically, it calls for urgent action on policy to safeguard and revitalise language learning across all phases of education – the aim being to boost educational and career opportunities for young people and the country’s ability to compete in the global economy.
Those lending their weight to the campaign, which will target policy-makers and leaders in education and business, include CILT, the Association for Language Learning, the British Council and the National Association of Language Advisers.
