Read Write Inc. Phonics raising reading standards in schools

Free Open Events – come and see Read Write Inc. in action

Read Write Inc. Phonics is used by more than a quarter of the UK’s primary schools.

Ruth Miskin created the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme during her time as a headteacher in Tower Hamlets. She knew that in order for a school to be successful,  every headteacher needed to adopt a consistent whole school approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling.

12 years later, the programme is transforming early literacy in primary schools. With a team of over 60 expert trainers across the UK - trainers with the avowed core purpose to get every child reading and writing quickly and proficiently – staff, children and parents are amazed by the results.

“Self-esteem is raised as our children feel that they can read. We reached 93% in our (2014) PSC with 100% of our pupil premium children reaching the standard. The borough average is 70%.” Gareth James, Deputy Headteacher, Beechwood Primary School, Reading

“My son has achieved so much in his reception year…I am just amazed at how well he has learnt to read, write and speak more clearly…He has achieved more than I ever thought possible, with the help of his enthusiastic teachers and the excellent Read Write Inc. programme.”
Terri Pitts, Parent

“I feel that my writing is much better and my reading is just superb.’
Pupil, St Pauls RC Academy, Dundee

A recent success story is the London borough of Newham.

In 2011, 45 out of 67 Newham schools adopted Read Write Inc. Phonics. In 2014, Newham achieved above the national average in reading for the first time in the history of the Key Stage 1 assessment. This trend has continued in their 2015 results.

“If it wasn’t for Ruth Miskin Training and Read Write Inc., we would not have achieved our amazing Phonics screening check results 4 years in a row.”
Sanjana Mihdi-din, Assistant Head Teacher, Vicarage Primary School, Newham
