October marks the return of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
It’s an important opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer and fund-raise so that we can continue to fund vital research into the disease.
Breast Cancer Now’s research has never been more important – breast cancer remains the most common cancer in the UK. This year alone, around 55,000 women and 350 men will be told they have the disease. Sadly, around 11,500 women and 80 men will lose their lives to breast cancer.
We can’t live with that. Breast Cancer Now funds research entirely focused on breast cancer and our aim is that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer lives – and lives well.
Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink day is one of the biggest and pinkest fundraising events in the UK. Taking place on Friday 19 October, wear it pink day will once again unite thousands of fundraisers in their schools, workplaces and homes across the country as they ditch their everyday colours and pull on something pink to raise money for vital breast cancer research.
Since the first wear it pink event in 2002, over £31 million has been raised by fundraisers across the UK for Breast Cancer Now’s research. For 2018, we’re encouraging schools, teachers and pupils across the country to join us again and dig out their pink glad rags to help stop breast cancer in its tracks.
It’s very easy to get involved in wear it pink at your school – you can hold a pink cake sale or organise a pink non-uniform day. The more pink activities, cakes and bunting you fit into your day, the more money you’ll raise towards a future where everybody who develops breast cancer lives.
Breast Cancer Now has put together a fantastic fundraising pack available for everyone who registers to wear it pink with us. It’s packed with lots of great ideas and fundraising tips to make sure your day is a huge success.
Right now, we’re funding around £26.5 million worth of ground-breaking research projects, supporting nearly 380 of the world’s brightest researchers at institutions across the UK and Ireland.
However, all of this is only possible with the help of our amazing supporters who are at the heart of everything we do. For every development we make in our labs, it’s their passion, determination and generosity that drives us forward. We simply cannot continue to make progress without this incredible support.
“Wear it pink is a brilliant opportunity for schools across the UK to fundraise together and there are so many fun ways to get involved,” says Lottie Barnden, Senior Fundraising Products Manager at Breast Cancer Now. “Whatever you do, you’ll be raising money for Breast Cancer Now’s vital research.
“We know how much fun schools have when they take part in wear it pink and we look forward to hearing all about the ways pupils and teachers across the UK are planning to fundraise and take part this year.”
Please join us this October and take part in wear it pink. Visit wearitpink.org for further details and to register for your free fundraising pack.
