Find authors willing to visit your school at
An author visit is so much more than just listening to someone read from the books they have written. Authors can bring the writing process to life by talking about where ideas come from and how they develop characters and plots. They can run workshops to stimulate children’s own writing and provide cross-curricular links by talking about the topics covered in their books.
In addition, author/illustrators can demonstrate how they create their characters and encourage children to draw their own pictures.
The easy-to-use searchable database on www.contactanauthor.co.uk will help you find authors with the right skills to interest your students and will also help you locate authors who live in your area or who are willing to do a distant visit via Skype. .
The site is free to use, there’s no need to register and all bookings are made direct with the authors. If you’re worried about organising an author visit for the first time, there are hints and tips to guide you through the process.
