The sponsored spelling competition for schools!
Spellathon is a free, online sponsored spelling competition to make spelling fun for school children in the UK. Every school that signs up gives their pupils the chance to improve their spelling, has access to fun, interactive online games, can win prizes and raise lots of sponsorship money to support people with a learning disability. Schools can also get back 25% of what their pupils raise.
Schools pledge to collectively spell a number of words correctly. Pupils can take part by playing fun, interactive spelling games – with our animated bees voiced by Stephen Fry and Jodie Whittaker – both at school and at home. Spellathon offers teachers access to resources including a whiteboard game, video for assembly, teaching resources, letters for parents and leaderboard for the competition. There are over 10,000 words available in line with the UK’s curriculum.
Teachers can check children’s progress and change ability levels. They can also track pupils’ progress, change ability level and downloads a misspelt words report. You can also get personalised Spellathon certificates for every child.
Spellathon makes spelling fun to learn, and easy to teach. Pupils sign up and pledge to spell their target number of words. As they play the games and practice their spelling, they ask friends and family to sponsor them –for example per correct word or set of words, or by making a donation to Mencap for their efforts.
Each school sets up a JustGiving page. Each pupil then promotes the school’s page to their friends and family, and gathers sponsorship money.
Schools can get back 25% of the total their pupils raise. Send your sponsorship money by 25 March 2013 to qualify for the £10,000 cash prize!
The Spellathon online games will be available until 31 March 2012.
