Safeguard your Pupils with a ‘Speak Out. Stay Safe.’ Session

As the new school term begins, the NSPCC is encouraging primary schools across the UK to book a Speak out. Stay safe session for their school.

The Speak out. Stay safe. programme aims to give a generation of children the knowledge and ability to speak out about abuse and neglect, and get help if they need it.

Delivered by NSPCC staff and volunteers at no cost, the session is available to all UK primary schools, every three years.

Schools that have already received a session can get in touch to book a repeat session at any time.

About the session

NSPCC staff and volunteers deliver assemblies and workshops in primary schools, to support schools to safeguard pupils by recognising the warning signs of abuse and how they can seek help.

With the help of the Speak out. Stay safe. mascot, Buddy, the child-friendly, interactive assemblies and workshops help children:

• Understand abuse in all its forms (including physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect and bullying) and recognise the signs
• Recognise that they can speak to a trusted adult or contact Childline if they’re worried for themselves or a friend.

The session links directly to the curriculum, helping schools meet their statutory requirements and OFSTED. It also links to new compulsory Relationships and Sex Education guidance, which states that primary schools ‘should teach pupils the knowledge they need to recognise and report abuse.

Workshops are available for all primary schools, with a tailored provision for Special schools.
