Readathon is the UK’s easy-to-run sponsored reading event for schools which encourages pupils to read for pleasure by allowing them to read whatever they want – fiction, non-fiction, comics, poetry, e-books or just listen to stories. Pupils’ enthusiasm soars because the money they raise helps seriously ill children in the UK. PLUS your school gets free books worth 20% of the total it raises.
“I had all but given up on trying to get my daughter (Year 4) to read, but this has given her the push she needed and we can’t stop her now. Thank you.” Parent, St Christopher’s School, Beckenham
You can run your Readathon at any time of year, for any length of time. The free resource pack is crammed full of great materials, including posters, sponsor cards, bookmarks and a DVD featuring Michael Rosen to help launch Readathon in your school.
“We found your box of goodies inspiring. You really helped to make the whole process fuss-free and straightforward.” Ms Titley, Literacy Coordinator, Funtington Primary, Chichester
Running Readathon helps meet Ofsted’s requirement for schools to ‘develop policies to promote reading for enjoyment’. And research shows that recreational readers not only gain higher scores in reading assessments, but they also fare better in their education as a whole.
“Readathon’s a brilliant way to get kids reading!”
