Passionate about the health of children
At Playforce, we are passionate about the health of children, and committed to helping every child get access to high quality, engaging outdoor spaces. Following research with our partner settings and our campaign work around the topic of Healthy Children, we developed Drop Spots– a flexible resource for use in free play, or during lesson time, for the development of Fundamental Movement Skills and physical literacy.
During our research, we met Liz Myers, School Sports Coordinator and founder of popular physical education resource website, PE Scholar. Liz works with Primary Schools to help class teachers deliver outstanding PE lessons and she has helped us to make sure that Drop Spots are a useful tool for doing just this.
What are Fundamental Movement Skills?
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are the basic movement patterns that form the foundations of more specialised and complex skills used in sports, dance, gymnastics, physical education and recreation. These skills should be developed and practised early in childhood to enable children to perform a variety of skills necessary to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
