Oliwia Zacny from Forest Fields Primary School has won a national competition run by leading stationery manufacturer STAEDTLER.
World Kids Colouring Day is an annual competition run through Teachers’ Club UK, STAEDTLER’s online platform for primary school teachers.
The theme for 2018 was Typically British and Oliwia was judged the overall winner in the Key Stage 2 category for her impressive picture of a fox in Sherwood Forest. With over 11,000 entries received from talented young artists throughout the UK, Oliwia has done incredibly well.
As well as STAEDTLER stationery goodies for herself, Oliwia also won £250 worth of STAEDTLER products for her school and an art workshop for her class with renowned British artist and caricaturist Picasso Griffiths.
The prizes were presented during assembly on 23 July 2018 after which Oliwia’s class enjoyed their morning workshop. This began with a demonstration of simple sketch and drawing techniques from Picasso before the children had a go themselves.
They also learnt how to make ‘flick’ books which Picasso will animate for them during the summer holidays.
Oliwia’s teacher and Teachers’ Club UK member, Miss Keila James said:
“We had a fantastic day! The children really enjoyed it and were buzzing from the experience right up until the end of the day. Picasso delivered a great assembly that showcased his skills and talents as well as encouraging the aspirations of the children. Both children and staff were engaged in the interactive assembly.”
Miss James continued:
“The children had a super time during the workshop in the classroom with Picasso. They enjoyed the hands-on experience of sketching each other using observational skills and making animation booklets. They learned lots of transferable skills. The workshop was fun, inspiring and engaging.”
