Shaping citizens

Professor Lord Norton of Louth has used January's Democratic Life event to highlight the importance of citizenship education.

The Conservative Peer, who stated that teaching children to be good citzens was a prerequisite for the Government’s creation of ‘big society’, was just one speaker at an event that brought together an audience of MPs, Peers, civil society organisations, teachers and pupils to discuss the future of citizenship education, and how they can influence the upcoming review of the National Curriculum.

Other speakers making the trip to the House of Commons included former secretary of state, and deputy head, David Blunkett MP, whilst students also had the opportunity to comment on their view of how citizenship is taught in the classroom. Visit citizenshipfoundation.org.uk
