CILT has announced that it has won a major European project to promote good practice in community languages across Europe.

Worth £130,000, ‘Our Languages into Europe’ aims to build upon the success of the national centre for langagues’ ‘Our Languages’ project, which created partnerships between 90 mainstream and complementary schools, enhancing teaching and learning of community languages and promoting social cohesion. For those not in the know, community languages are all languages in use in the UK other than the official languages of the state.

Key themes for the project include the importance of achieving listening, writing, reading and speaking in community languages, along with formal accrediation for literacy skills in these languages.
